To access the Melville J. Herskovits papers, please first create a user account with the McCormick Library of Special Collections. You may then use your account to request materials through the online catalog or the collection finding aid and to keep a record of your transactions. Once your material is pulled and ready to be viewed, you will receive a link to book your appointment. If you are unable to visit in person, you can request a virtual reference session by emailing us at specialcollections@northwestern.edu or request reproductions.

Related archival collections include the Melville J. Herskovits Biographical materials and the Program of African Studies records. Photographs of Herskovits are stored in our Photograph Files under Herskovits' name (no related finding aid).

Should you wish to access material held by the Herskovits Library of African Studies, please consult this catalog or contact africana@northwestern.edu.
